Portrait of a Pioneer
O'Dwyer Homes
Dan O'Dwyer

Dan O’Dwyer, founder and president of O’Dwyer Homes, is proud to be the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association’s 2006 Builder of the Year. Earning him the title are his eco-friendly EarthCraft homes that offer open floor plans, vaulted ceilings and interior columns. O’Dwyer Homes focuses on every detail to make each house your home. Dan talks to Newcomer about his customer-oriented company and what it means to give back to the community and the environment.

What prompted you to establish O’Dwyer Homes?
With a degree in building construction management and 11 years of experience working for national homebuilders, I believed I was very qualified to deliver an excellent product to the customer. That early focus helped me develop a wide and deep perspective on the art of building affordable, high-quality homes. I have worked hard to earn the respect of customers, employees, colleagues and even competitors.

What does it mean to you to be HomeAid Atlanta’s Builder Captain of the Year?

It leaves me humbled. I’ve always been focused on service and giving back and doing the right things. It is great to be recognized for your efforts beyond building homes, to be recognized as a builder who cares about his community.

What influenced your decision to build EarthCraft homes?
EarthCraft offers a great energy-saving program to our customers for the life of their home. These homes are built using environmentally conscious “green” building products. All homes built by O’Dwyer Homes have 90-percent-efficient gas furnaces and additional insulation features such as house wrap and are tested by third-party Earth-Craft House inspectors. Homeowners of an Earth-Craft house can save up to 30 percent or more in energy costs on their homes, and due to the energy efficiency, the homes help reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases.

What is your greatest achievement?

I was named the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association’s 2006 Builder of the Year. I love what I do, and being honored by my peers is the greatest achievement.

How do you make the customer a priority?
Excellence goes well beyond the homes built at O’Dwyer Homes. We are passionate about providing each customer with a positive building experience. Homeowners consistently provide positive feedback regarding their homes, the staff and the home building process. To ensure all clients are satisfied, O’Dwyer Homes addresses all concerns in a timely manner and the professional, experienced staff is always on hand to answer questions. While striving to build earth-friendly homes, O’Dwyer is also committed to keeping the customer a top priority.

What are your hopes for the future of O’Dwyer Homes?

O’Dwyer Homes sets the bar high when it comes to building standards and customer satisfaction practices, but employees appreciate this and work hard to meet or exceed the goals we have set. People have to enjoy what they do, and O’Dwyer strives to make it a pleasant place to work. I am very careful to make sure that every person feels like he or she is an important part of the company. I hope that the company can continue to prosper and grow and remain a long-term member of the Atlanta community.
