The Preserve East Atlanta
Where Nature and the City Unite
by Whitney Brennan

Homebuyers looking to get back to nature while remaining within easy reach of the city should look no further than The Preserve East Atlanta, DeKalb County’s first “conservation-zoned” neighborhood. Located just minutes from East Atlanta Village and Downtown Atlanta, single-family homes are situated on 53 acres, which includes more than 18 acres of untouched green space. Residents can hike along Sugar Creek and enjoy the community’s certified wildlife habitat or meet up with friends and family for fun in the city.

Craftsman-style homes with large columns and inviting front porches complement the nature-inspired Springdale Homes’ community. The 131 homes, priced from the $280s to the $360s, offer at least three bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths with basement and bonus room options. Nine different floor plans are available, including 1,600 to 2,500 square feet of finished space and up to an additional 1,000 square feet of unfinished space. While the homes have charming features of classic homes, such as coffered ceilings, larger baseboards, hardwood floors and wood cabinets, they offer the amenities of contemporary homes, including larger kitchens and master bedrooms.

The attention to detail that is standard in Springdale Homes’ communities is evident in The Preserve’s homes, which feature cedar shake and brick accents, custom exterior wood columns, period-style crown molding, fireplaces with elaborate wood mantels and real wood cabinetry in the kitchens and baths. And these wood cabinets aren’t like those found in other homes. Beth Ann Clanin, a Bo Bridgeport Brokers agent representing the property, says, “All of our cabinets are built by the Amish in Missouri, so they are handcrafted with dovetailing and joinery work that you don’t find in most builder cabinets. I think that is a very unique quality of our homes.”

In addition, the homes feature other details that add appeal, such as brushed nickel doorknobs, ceramic tile in all full baths, granite countertops in the kitchen and cultured marble vanity tops in the baths. All homes offer outdoor living spaces—some plans feature master suites with French doors that open onto a covered front or back porch, allowing residents to feel the connection to nature that is an important part of The Preserve lifestyle. These porches also create a sense of community—the deep, inviting decks inspire conversations with neighbors. Streetlights and sidewalks lining the cul-de-sac streets complement the community feel. “People are walking, pushing strollers and running in the neighborhood. They are happy to see and get to know one another. I feel like I am in a true neighborhood, which is hard to find anymore,” says Clanin.

Since The Preserve is conveniently located approximately five miles from Downtown Atlanta, residents enjoy the sense of living in a true community while also having easy access to the conveniences of the city. East Atlanta Village, Little Five Points and Oakhurst Village are also nearby, offering residents a plethora of shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities.

The neighborhood is perfect for those who don’t want to choose between the peacefulness of a quiet community and the convenience and excitement of the city. At The Preserve East Atlanta, residents certainly get the best of both worlds.
