Ric Bowden, president and general manager of Richard Bowden Homes, talks to Newcomer about his more than 30 years in the building industry and what inspires his building designs. RB Homes builds custom homes, priced from the $350s to $1 million, in the north Metro Atlanta area. The company is known in the building industry for its extreme attention to every detail throughout the home building process, from the architectural plans to the installation of the final light fixture.

Tell us briefly about your home building experience and your company.

I began my building career in 1974 as a finish carpenter while attending the University of Hawaii. In 1982, after earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida, I brought my family to Atlanta. After almost 20 years and over 1,000 restaurant interiors, I founded Richard Bowden Homes. We then applied our restaurant design knowledge to building high-quality custom homes. Our homes feature fine architectural features, elaborate trim and distinctive kitchens and master suites. Cabinetry is custom-designed, handcrafted and hand-finished by one of Atlanta’s finest third-generation cabinet makers.

What are homebuyers’ expectations today, and how does your company meet these expectations?

We are inspired by family dreams and creative designs by fine architects such as Frank Betz Associates, Donald A. Gardner Architects and Garrell Associates. RB Homes is inspired to build the highest-quality home on the market. We are committed to making each home special and custom, because the house we build becomes your home.

What do you consider to be one of your greatest achievements?

We are very proud that Richard Bowden Homes maintains a friendship with nearly all of its former clients. In addition, we have become known in the industry for finishing homes on or before the scheduled completion date.

What are your hopes for the future of Richard Bowden Homes?

We will continue to build a “Legacy of Quality” for our clients. Over the next few years, our plan is to build 10 to 15 quality homes per year, making every home a truly custom home for each family. In the coming years, we hope to expand into building more luxury homes, from $3 to $4 million-plus. My sons, Chadwick and Jason, will soon graduate from college and will bring the latest in technology, design and management to our company.
